Kunafa

Ingredients

Konafa or Kataifi pastry dough (ready-made)
Butter, melted
Sugar
Water
Lemon juice
Rose water
Almonds, blanched
Raisins
Ground cinnamon
Cream cheese
Butter

Preparation

  1. In a heavy bottomed pan, add water, sugar and lemon juice.
  2. Boil until it turns to thick syrup.
  3. Remove from the heat and add rose water.
  4. Put Kataifi or konafa in a bowl and mix melted butter.
  5. Place some almonds in a pan, cover kataifi.
  6. Press it down and level it.
  7. Spread cream cheese, spread it evenly on kataifi.
  8. Sprinkle sugar and cinnamon, cover with remaining kataifi.
  9. Press down gently and level it.
  10. Bake in a preheated oven for about 30-45 minutes.
  11. Immediately pour cold sugar syrup evenly over the hot Kunafa.
  12. Let it cool and invert it on the tray. Take care when using Ricotta cheese, it might be difficult to invert. Cut it from the pan.
